Hi! I’m Hans Ttito 👋
I’m a fisheries biologist and a master’s student in Fisheries Science at the University of Concepción (Chile). My work focuses on studying the impact of Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) on small pelagic fish in southern Chile, exploring how invasive species, climate change, and human activities affect the sustainability of our marine resources.
My Journey into Programming
Like many scientists, my programming journey started out of necessity: analyzing large volumes of ecological and fisheries data without getting lost along the way. What began as just a tool quickly became a passion. I discovered that with R and Python I could:
- 🔄 Automate repetitive tasks that used to take me days
- 📊 Create visualizations that clearly communicate science
- 🖥️ Build reproducible dashboards and applications
Programming isn’t just a technical tool; it’s a bridge between science, fisheries management, and society.
Why “Programming for Non-Programmers”?
I know how intimidating programming can seem, especially if you come from a natural sciences background. That’s why I created this blog: to share what I learn in an accessible and practical way. Here you’ll find:
- 🐟 Practical applications of R and Python in marine sciences
- 📊 Step-by-step tutorials with no unnecessary jargon
- 🌍 Real examples of ecological data analysis
- 📦 Recipes to automate your scientific workflow
My mission is to demystify programming and show that any scientist can learn to code, no matter their technical background.
Beyond Coding
When I’m not programming or analyzing data, you’ll find me:
- 📖 Researching marine ecology
- 🎣 In the field, collecting samples with fishers
- ☕ Reflecting on how science can contribute to marine conservation
Let’s Connect!
If you’re a scientist looking to learn programming, or if you already code and are interested in marine ecology, I’d love to connect with you. You can find me on LinkedIn or email me at hansttito06@gmail.com. You can also check out my repositories on GitHub, and here’s my CV if you’re interested.
Do you have biological data you need to process? Want to talk about programming? Or just need some help with a script? I’m here to help!
If you want it even more concise or need any adjustment in the tone, let me know!
